Going to school I presented myself with modesty and spoke clearly, but some would mistake it as “talking white”. I was always raised to treat people the way I would want to be treated, but never different. But now I came to the realization that being different is what makes me unique. Embracing the color of my skin and proud to call me an African-American woman. Knowing that there would always be someone that doesn't condone us “different” folk, but we can impress everybody. As long as I’m true to myself, I’m holding my integrity and representing the people of color in a positive way. Now many people can use this word in various ways, from either being different from how you wear your hair, or how you dress. So today, I’m using different to represent racism, and how racist people perceive us as “different” in color. One day I hope for all of us to come together and not look at the color of our skin, but the personality lies beneath
