Chapter 2 of Dr. Golem: How to Think About Medicine by Harry Collins and Trevor Pinch, published in 2005 by the University of Chicago Press, is about the bogus doctors. A bogus doctor is someone who practices medicine without proper education or training. At the beginning of the chapter Collins and Pinch talk about “fakers”. They explain that there are “fakers” who are able to hide and ones who get caught easily. Some bogus doctors practice for years without being caught, and some of the ones who do get caught do not even get caught by medical incompetence.
