In this section the results of the degree of water hardness of the water samples of this group using the two primary methods EDTA and AA will be discussed and analyzed in terms of which sample is exhibiting a high degree of hardness and which sample is considered to have a small water hardness value compared to other samples, and test the hypothesis and prediction of the water samples being tested. According to the results obtained and calculated the water sample that has a high hardness value is the tape water from the Pollock residence hall. On the other hand, the water sample that experiences a high degree of water softness compared to the other three samples is the tap water from the clubhouse at the Heights State College. …show more content…
As for the results that reflects the divergence from the hypothesis the main reason is due to the presence of sources of errors that are present while either taking the water samples or when conducting the experiment. In addition, the expected water hardness of the water sample from the Arboretum was to be the highest but due to sources of errors its not and one of the possible reasons is that the water fountain may have been recycled or being replaces with a recent water so that it still attain a slight degree of softness. Conversely, the tap water from the Pollock residence hall was expected to have a lower hardness than the water fountain but one possible source of error is that during the experiment the person whose carrying out the procedure missed some EDTA drops or overdo which or performed some inconsistent techniques in handling and titrating the water sample and all these actions lie under human errors and are …show more content…
Also, these others divalent cations may be as well presented in the other two water samples. As for the AA method, each machine have a specific cathode lamp that emits a light of a certain wavelength so that the desired divalent cation measurement could be recorded, so basically it measures the hardness of 1 divalent cation in the water sample rather than measuring the total hardness of the
