Imagery is important in any book or show. It can change the whole outlook. There are many similarities and differences between the two. There are little pieces given at a time. For example, in the book Hannah, her daughter, is not brought until a few chapters in whereas the show brings her in right away. In the bigger picture, The Handmaid’s Tale, is better to read as a book rather than watching the show. The show pictures things how one might not have pictured them while reading. There is a line between seeing and imaging. In the book it does not appear that the eyes are in as many places as they appear in the book. They are always watching and walking nearby. The book also portrays Serena Joy and the Commander older. In the book it is said that Serena Joy has a cane that did not appear in the episode. Another thing that is shocking is the Martha’s are a lot bitterer than they are seen as in the book. This was a surprising moment in the show when this was shown. Although in the book it is shown through text that the Martha’s do like the handmaids, but only for the purpose of having a little one around, it did not show that they were as bitter towards
