In “Shitty First Draft” published in Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life on 1995, author Anne Lamott explains that every good writing has a shitty first draft. To support her position, first, Lamott describes what the shitty first draft is. Lamott indicates that the shitty first draft is the child’s draft and she will be the only one to seeing it. She also consider the first draft to be the down draft – get everything down. Next, she reviews her first draft with a colored pen and makes her correction to write her second draft.…

One’s inspiration can be sparked from anything: an inspirational teacher, a caring parent, or a strict librarian. Children will go to great lengths to mimic their role models and try to become exactly like them. When I was a child, I looked up to my teacher. Mrs. Flathau seemed to have a smile on her face at all times, and she would try her best every day. On a daily basis, my teacher would pass out papers.…
When looking at the history of graphic design its clear how impactful design has been. There has been plenty of inspiring designers who have continued to embark creativity. There have been designers such as Stefan Sagmeister, who developed “Lou Reed” poster design, Michael Bierut, “The Architectural League of New York Light Years” poster design, there is also Massimo Vignelli who created “New York City Transit Authority” subway map. From these innovative designers the main connection they share amongst each other is creativity to create powerful and moving designs as well as being male designers. Throughout history, especially during a time such as the 1950s women were not being recognized for just how creative and inspiring their work was in the graphic design field.…

In this seminar, I will discuss approaches through which Alison Bechdel exposes her emotions and personal perplexities within the literary and graphic aspects of her memoir such as her relationship with her father and her road to self-discovery. Approaches such as distinct pigment of the drawings, and the use of specific motifs and allusions are how Bechdel’s hidden and confused thoughts are represented. Bechdel’s illustrations are toned with a dismal blue/green colour throughout most of Fun Home. The chilled, placid, and dismal tint reflects Alison’s distant relationship with her family.…
"Shitty First Drafts," by Anne Lamott dismisses the myth of the “perfect first draft” by explaining how horrible first drafts really are. It seems that she is writing to a young, student-based audience. Lamott mixes in a lot of humor which makes it fun and interesting to read and since she writes in a very informal tone it helps her connect to the reader more than if she wrote more professionally. Along with this Lamott seems to be trying to see through the audience’s eyes by telling her personal story about writing restaurant reviews for magazines.…

The redemption of Mother Nature’s liveliness from the laziness of winter marks the beginning of spring. On a joyful spring day, my Mother deemed it appropriate to begin the annual cleaning of the cramped living structure attached to our motel, which we proudly called “home.” During the tedious process of re-organizing my room, I found a dusty briefcase containing many aged, crippled documents and a beautiful framed picture of my Mother. My 9-year-old self was in a perplexed state as I re-gazed at the picture in awe when my Mother told me that the “picture” was actually a drawing created by a local villager in India. This moment sparked an inextinguishable desire within me to create realistic artwork using the minimal art media that I had.…

Art director who always influences a piece of advertisement’s success or failure is one of most important position in the advertising field. There are a lot of different positions in creative team in the advertising field. From my perspective, the most important one is the art director. Art director charges advertisement’s overall design that what information it should convey and how to convey. If character in the advertisement is like human’s sound, the part of art is like appearance and body language.…
Executive Summary The following report will be a reflection upon a previous creative experience during my third year at university. The Last Masterpiece After suffering from pneumonia in Greenwich Village, New York, crafting a beautiful painting was Joanna's number one priority. Her roommate, an aspiring artist named Sue, persuaded Joanna to continue painting after resting for weeks, an idea Joanna had no qualms with. Both Joanna and Sue lived in the top of a three-story brick building at the beginning of winter with paint and no shortage of inspiration. Joanna had so much inspiration that she couldn't think of where to start. Greenwich Village had many artists searching for a living.…
In Art as Experience, John Dewey argues that art enhances how people experience life. Specifically, Dewey stated that to fully live one 's life, they must understand and appreciate the art around them in order to enhance their everyday experience. In this paper, I will use Art as Experience as my source to show Dewey 's argument with the use of examples and artworks mentioned in the work to back it up. I will touch on the classification of art and how art can enhance experience, the different experiences that can occur, and how art is similar to life.…
