Why Collegiate Athletes Should Be Paid.
College athletes all around the world are working their tail off morning and night. They get up before school and go to practice, then the school then back to practice. That is their life at that certain point in time. Some athletes that receive scholarships are getting their education paid for. Some have a meal plan through the team and also even get free housing. There are some athletes call walk-ons. They don’t receive scholarships but they still make the team and play. Those walk-ons don’t get a free education or housing. If they got paid during their college years, they wouldn't have the financial problems that 60 percent of the professional players do. Statistics show that 60 percent of retired people go completely broke after 5 years of retirement. The average retirement age for professional sports is any from 30-36. This players after retiring would give them any from 30-45 more year left to live! If these athletes got paid early on in college they would have those financial smarts to not go broke within their lifetime. It would also help the competitiveness of the sports if they get paid. The better they perform the better they get paid. The athletes would want to be paid obviously so they are going to work and try to be the best they they could possibly be. If they are making money while getting an even better education they would stay. On the other hand I feel like that's only for football and basketball. For example, Jordan Spieth who is a professional golfer let Texas early because he could go pro right that second and know he's going to make a lot of money. There is no point in staying in school and paying student loans if they aren't going to use your degree. Many professional golfers don’t retire tell they are in there 50’s even 60’s.
