Introduction
July 9, 2013 marked a monumental day in the history of the United States of America. This is the day that Illinois’s ban on concealed carry was ruled unconstitutional, allowing the citizens of Illinois the ability to conceal carry a weapon. With this ban lifted people can now conceal carry in all 50 states. The debate of gun control is a debate stemming from the second amendment of the constitution. In recent years, large movements to allow people to conceal weapons in public have been successful. Conceal carrying weapons is a positive alternative to open carrying weapons in public, which has been allowed for many years. With people now carrying weapons crime rates have been reduced. They see the weapon and know it will be harder to win but try any way for the thrill. By participating in open carry one may just be putting themselves in harm’s way even more. When the criminal doesn’t see the weapon, they don’t know if there is one, so they are more cautious of approaching. This is also why concealed carry is the positive alternative to open carrying weapons. With the majority of the general public uneducated on the open carry laws, the increase in the chance of bodily harm and chance of altercation, open carrying a weapon is not worth it. Concealed carry permit classes make firearm users safer weapon users. Ohio course requirements to obtain a concealed carry permit is among one of easiest course to obtain a concealed carry permit in the entire nation, but it is still incredibly tough. Ohio has many parts to their course. First, anybody who wishes to receive a permit, and has completed the necessary background checks, has to complete a written, class room portion of the course. The class room portion of the class has to last a mandatory minimum of ten hours to be consider sufficient in the state of Ohio, but many last much longer. During the duration of this classroom portion the instructors teach the participants valuable information. The information taught during the class ranges from simple weapons storage, to gun safety. Also the instructors teach how to react during and after the incident in the rare occasion one needs to use there weapon. At the end of the course all the participants need to pass a closed book exam on the materials taught during class to move onto the next step of the process. The extensive course concealed carry permit holders must go through make them safer weapons users.
