I could hear him dragging his feet across the floor, his eyes meeting my seat. His brown shoes seemed to be a little too big, as our eyes met, his lips parted and he said, “E’Vaun do you know how your grandparents met? Out of curiosity I would just like to know.” Unsure of his sudden interest, “curiosity?” I asked him. Staring down with glee, looking almost excited, he nodded and said, “yes, I was just wondering if you knew the history of your family.” I knew they were together but I wasn't quite sure on how they met. I replied to his question stating “I don’t know much”. His smile widened and he asked, “how would you like some extra credit?” Unsure of what would happen next, I began to think. I replied, “that could honestly do alot for my grade sir, what would I have to do?” His words began to escape him, as if they were baby birds being forcefully pushed out of the nest by their mother. “How about you go home, find out how this all came about. Write a three page essay on it and have it turned in by friday, I will give you 100 extra credit points. How does that sound?” In my mind, it sounded like an easy A. I stated that I was willing to do it. “Great, I can’t wait to read it.”

The person who gave that home life, she wasn’t there. As hours past I finally wrote my essay. The next morning I rushed to school because I couldn’t wait to show Coach Bair. As he began to read it he stopped and said, “E’Vaun I’m actually quite impressed, it only took you one day to write this.” He then continued to read it and by the time he was finished, He shouted “ THAT IS SUCH A PHENOMENAL STORY”.
