The most meaningful extracurricular activity to me has been the FFA Organization. Entering high school as a freshman not knowing anyone is very intimidating. I went into the ninth grade thinking that the next four years wouldn’t be good. On my schedule my second period class was Agriscience Applications. I grew up on a farm all my life so I thought that this class would be fun and interesting. A component of being in an agriculture class is the FFA Organization. When I entered this class and learned about FFA I didn’t know that my life was fixing to change forever.
During my first year as an FFA member I learned and grew so much. I was such a shy person that I was literally horrified to get up in front of a group of people and speak. When I entered the class I had to learn and recite the FFA Creed in front of everyone enrolled in the class. The FFA Creed is a five paragraph speech based upon what the FFA Organization stands for. After memorizing the Creed and reciting the whole in front of the class I had overcame the major fear of speaking in front of people. My FFA Advisor at the time, Ms. Watson, asked me to compete in the Creed Speaking competition. Reluctantly, I agreed. In April of 2013 I competed in Creed Speaking and won fourth in the West Region. This was one of the best choices I have ever made in my life. When I tried out to be an officer I was so nervous. I went into the interviews shaking. When the time finally came for me to find out my officer position it was secretary. As soon as I found out I was so excited to know that my dream of being an officer had finally came true.
