The 60’s had so many unique moves that it can’t even be described as fitting into a single category of dance or genre of music, although blues-rock was preeminent. In the 70’s, however, disco and hip hop were prominent. Hip hop in the 70’s was the first to popularize street dance. Dance moves like the Twist, the Locomotion, and the Monster Mash were the most famous in the 60’s and 70’s. The disco music, style, and dance moves are much less popular than they were, but hip hop is still popular and enjoyed by a wide range of ages and generations today. Although hip hop is still favored, it has advanced and evolved significantly, and is more professionalized than the street dance it was most commonly practiced in.
Dance is continually evolving with each generation and decade. The importance of dance is constantly changing as well. Over the years, people have used dance in different ways to express themselves in various forms. Dance encourages individuality, and it allows people to convey emotion in various ways.
