David Goggins Argumentative Essay

Throughout the history of mankind, we have held certain people on pedestals of respect and fame. David Goggins is on one of those pedestals for me because he exemplifies the importance of hard work and determination. Desmond Doss is on a pedestal for me because he is the embodiment of faith. While Desmond Doss is a faith filled person, David Goggins is my higher role model because he is an example of what mental toughness will get you and you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.x` David Goggins is a former Navy SEAL who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is now an ultra-marathon runner and one of the world’s best endurance athletes. He is the only person to complete Seal training, U.S. Army Ranger School, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training. David Goggins was born into an abusive household, and he was “put to work in his father’s roller rink business” (Robinson). His dad had to work so much and because David helped him, he missed a lot of school. As a child he was sick with asthma, a congenital heart defect, and a sickle-cell trait. He graduated from high school with a 1.6 GPA because he had so many absences. When signing up to become a Navy SEAL everyone told him that “he was too dumb, too sick, or too fat to achieve his goal of a career serving our country” (All American). On August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking in the middle of the street when they were approached by a police officer by the name of Darren Wilson. With there being altered stories explaining what happened next rather than choosing one side of the story we can agree that an altercation occurred and it led to the unfortunate death of eighteen year old Michael Brown. Beginning as soon as you read the table of contents of the DOJ report on the Ferguson Police Department…
