Definition Essay: Does God Exist?

When one thinks or talks about God they perceive or have an idea of a being that is all powerful, knowing and good by every definition. So if the question “Does God exist?” were to be answered then it is only logical to break this very same question down also by definitions. According to the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary there are many definitions of God to choose from but for the sake of the length of this paper I will take the first which is, the supreme or ultimate reality as: A) the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe. If you look up the other words to the question in Webster’s dictionary exist means: A) to have real being whether material or spiritual or B) to have being …show more content…
It is usually something that is approved of so for example, if there were an explained disease that when around killing dark haired male German babies in the late 1880’s some would say that was bad and would but what if one of those babies grew up to be Hitler then it would be considered as bad because you would ultimately save thousands of other men, women and children’s lives. It is not possible for us to comprehend all powerful, knowing and good because we do not possess the capacity at this present time to understand everything within our limited definition of God. When we discuss all-knowing again we do not have the complete scope of knowledge to fully comprehend everything that there is to know, but it is not safe to say that one day we won’t uncover all the answers to the questions we have. That is the purpose of knowledge and the reason it will forever be an ongoing thing to be sought. God’s existence is still up for doubt to some because there are still unanswered questions for us at this moment. For instance, some of the things we know not were not known back in history like the earth being round instead of flat so there are still things to discover about God’s but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It simply means we haven’t discovered the answer yet. Most people think that all-knowing or knowledge and wisdom are the same word and have the same meaning but actually to be all knowing is more closely interpreted as being a …show more content…
For example, every year after Thanksgiving stores put things on sale for discounted prices then there are countless commercials and ad’s that tell us how we should feel and act for the holiday. This is a type of power the advertising companies have over us because every year more and more people spend money and go into debt to show their love regardless of the consequences it may have. One could say the advertisements are a god like tactic because they tell us what to think, do, feel and we do not question anything. When one brings up a being the first thing that usually comes to mind is a human or something of the sort but actually being is just something that is able to conceived or imagined. Your ideas still exist even without the physical presence of the thought sometimes. Therefore, God exist because we want it to exist. It is a means of comfort and helps explain the unexplainable. The fact that we are even aware of something greater then ourselves gives light to God’s

It was a few years ago when I was young and wise, that someone my age but older stood and claimed jubilantly, "Ignorance is Bliss", the wonderfully dreadfully, perfect mistake people make. What is so blissful about not knowing, better yet, purposely not wanting to know truth? The idea that Ignorance is Bliss makes sense to most, I mean, yeah, the truth can hurt but think about it. Removing a band-aid fast is far better than doing so in a slow and agonizingly painful manner. The difference with knowing is that pain is temporary, pain is understood, pain shapes the future.…

Deuteronomy 32:4 says “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” Metaphors about God and Jesus abound in The Bible. God is commonly referred to as a rock, as in this example.…

Pascal: Pascal’s Wager essentially revolves around the fact that betting on God’s existence is the best bet that one can make. This is because if one wagers on God’s existence and God doesn’t exist, they lose nothing. However, if he does exist, then the can potentially gain entrance into Heaven which is the ultimate reward. Therefore, betting on God’s existence is the best bet that one can possibly make. Pascal’s Wager excludes the important virtues that support Christianity and serves as a mainly self-centered principal.…

In this paper I will explain and evaluate two popular arguments regarding the existence of God, A Scientific Argument for the Existence of God by Robin Collins and The Inductive Argument from Evil Against the Existence of God by William Rowe; then I will discuss how the conclusions are not compatible with one another due to the conflicting structure of the conclusions as well as how one cannot accept both conclusions without compromising one of the arguments. First I will explain the basis of Collins’ argument, which is one of the most frequently used arguments in favor of theism. In A Scientific Argument for the Existence of God, Collins centers around the observation of how finely tuned the physical constants of the universe are to the ability for any form of life to exist, if any of them were to change even the smallest bit then no life would possibly be able to develop not to…

In a critique of Lawrence Krauss’s book A Universe from Nothing, William Lane Craig made the following claim, “The question is, if the universe began to exist and there was not anything before it then how did the universe come into being? It seems to me you have to postulate some sort of a transcendent, immaterial, non-physical reality to bring the universe into existence”. Actually, this is not merely a claim; Craig would like this statement to function as an argument for a particular worldview. Specifically, Craig uses this argument as a proof for the existence of God.…

The Teleological Argument The existence of God can be supported by the design argument or teleological arguments that conclude: since nature looks like it was designed, then nature was or has a designer which we call God. Not only is nature designed but things humans have created are designed also. In order to have something in existence, it must have a creator which must have designed that something. A number of arguments utilize design arguments in favor of the existence of God.…

prove it by just stating that is it something that exits in your mind. You have to be able to prove that it physically does exist. The fact that it is in your mind is not sufficient proof. Gaunilos argument is somewhat the same to Immanuel Kants. Conceiving the idea of God cannot in any way be thought to genuinely lead to conceving the idea that “God exists”.…

Defining something as large and complex as God is something hard to process. So for our purposes, we will call God the GCB or greatest conceivable being. A GCB can be agreed upon as a being who is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and omnibenevolent, meaning all-knowing, able to do anything, able to be everywhere at the same time, and all-loving. For thousands of years, people have debated the idea of a GCB. This debate has led to countless wars and many deaths.…

Christianity is a curious religion. Having the most historically accurate holy book of any religion, and yet the most unbelievable stories mixed in as to be true. I concede that there is a god but whether he is a good god or just one god can never be proven in a million years without him coming down and showing us all. I don't believe christianity is a perfect religion in any stretch of the imagination. I want to talk about psychology, history, and science proving my views on christianity.…

The Existence of God This argument about the existence of God, better known as the cosmological argument, begins with the late philosopher Aristotle. Similar to a modern day natural scientist, he believed that we could ascertain more about the world and the very fundamental nature of things within our world just by observing and recording. In many ways Aristotle resemble a modern day artist, a person who goes through life experiencing and watching all different types of energy that’s around, visually records this information and help others by spreading this knowledge to the mass. Aristotle too, would look and study the world and its patterns that were around him in order to gain insight into his world.…
