Describe your academic and career goals.
After graduating high school, I plan to further my education at either Kansas State University or Benedictine College. I will continue to be a leader in the classroom, maintain a 4.0 GPA and be involved on campus in the Newman Center and various student organizations and clubs. While I haven’t yet selected a major, I know that I am passionate about helping others. I aspire to work somewhere I am happy and positively impacting the lives of those around me; I’m not concerned about making a high salary. I also hope that the degree I attain can be used anywhere and for varied jobs so that I have lots of options to serve others. I have considered studying education, nursing, and social work, all important

I’ve always tried my hardest in school and taken advantage of opportunities to enroll in the honors and dual credit courses available to me. I’ve also been active in sports, clubs, church, and community service. In addition to mowing and babysitting, working as a respite care provider part-time has helped me to develop my sense of service and build my savings. Even so, college is very expensive and I worry about how to finance my education. While I plan to work to support myself through college, scholarships such as this would allow me to work fewer hours and focus more on schoolwork, enabling me to maintain high grades and rigorous study habits. Success in college would pave the way for internships and other opportunities to gain professional experience. If they are unpaid, I could still take advantage of these opportunities with scholarships there accounting for my financial needs. Because I want to go into a career serving others, I know I won’t be making a very large salary. While I am more than content with a modest income and work I love and believe in, it would be a huge relief to accumulate minimal student loans. With more scholarships and less debt to worry about, I can choose a college and career in which I can make the most difference rather than solely where I can make ends

From looking at my cost of attendance this coming school year, I see that I am still $1,651. Being concerned about having enough money to pay for housing is a concern that will prevent me from focusing on my academics and education.…

My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

As a first-generation woman of color that comes from a low-income household, I quickly realized that the opportunity to attain a college degree is unique and would not be possible if it were not for scholarship money and grants. If awarded the College JumpStart Scholarship I would use it to cover the various expenses of my spring semester. I intend to use the scholarship to buy books and supplies that will be required for the courses that I am taking. Also, I would use the scholarship to better immerse myself in campus life. With the scholarship, I could afford the time to attend talks and lectures, get more involved in on-campus clubs, pay for transportation, and most importantly work fewer hours at my work-study which in turn would enable me to do all that was previously mentioned.…

I found several scholarships on http://www.dosomething.org, which is a website dedicated to social change, that can be applied to in exchange for participating in various social causes. Some of the options available in exchange for these scholarships are recycling1, helping friends and family quit smoking2, or even just making a card for someone in your community to show your appreciation3. There are several ways I intend on cutting the costs of college expenses. One way is attending community college instead of a university to attain my associate’s degree. I am also living in my parent’s home as I work towards my associate’s and will possibly live with them when I work on my bachelor’s degree, depending on if I attend The Ohio State University…
