I was on the surgical unit at KBRH for this rotation. I care for a range of clients :a man who had a chest tube due to a motorcycle accident, a man who had a partial nephrectomy, several patients that had knee replacements, one patient with a hip replacement as well as a young man who had broken his pelvis in a mountain bike accident. I had the opportunity to spend a day in the OR with a client and follow her into the PAR and assist with monitoring her vital signs.
Skills that I was able to do this rotation were: IV push medications, putting in and taking out a catheter, several dressing changes, hanging IV medications as well as a chance to try and start an IV and I got to do a picc dressing change.
