Both the book and the movie have great story lines. Both of the stories are somewhat alike and somewhat different. The movie helped you feel like you were actually there and the book helped you understand why they were there and what was happening in that timeframe. The book title is the Devil's Arithmetic and so is the movie. The movie was made on march 28, 1999 and the book was published in november of 1998. For instance in the story hannah is a very young and mindless little 12 year old, and in the movie she is 17 and more understanding and knows what to do in a troubling situation. Also in the movie a young lover boy likes hannah and wants to help her escape the concentration camp, but in the book she is too young to have a boyfriend. Another difference would be when she is opening the door for elijah in the book she sees a man in a field singing and approaching her, but in the movie she goes right into a hallway. In the book the people always called her chaya but in the movie they never called her chaya they kept it at hannah. Also in the movie the jews in the concentration camp have a passover for rivka after her mother died to calm her nerves, but in the book they do not have the second passover, and rivka does not even have a mom in the book.
