About 2.7 million people live with Heart Disease in the UK and many Organisations such as The British Heart Foundation and the American Heart Foundation try to ensure there is awareness about Heart disease and share their vision about curing Heart Disease globally and preventing the premature deaths it causes. This is precisely why I feel that conducting research to determine why this disease claims the lives of one gender more than the other is essential.
What exactly is Cardiovascular Disease?
Cardiovascular disease consists of all diseases of the heart and circulation. This mainly consists of coronary heart disease, stroke, ischemic heart disease and many others. It is the main cause of death globally as it has the highest mortality rate than any other cause.

An electrocardiogram monitors monitors your heart by recording electrical signals as they pass through the heart. It is a non invasive procedure that can show how fast the heart is beating and as a result allow doctors to diagnosis cardiovascular diseases and see if any heart damage is present. Stress Testing is another for of diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. Whilst at Evelina Hospital I was able to witness a lot of these and see how the work. The stress tests work by monitoring your heart whilst you preform various exercises, this can include running on a treadmill or going on an exercise bike while your blood pressure is taken as well as an electrocardiogram to measure your heart
