Shakespeare’s King Lear and Milton’s Paradise Lost are similar, but very different. They have many of the same elements within each story, though the stories are very different. King Lear and Paradise Lost bring deception and betrayal to the table with Adam and Eve eating forbidden fruit and King Lear going through hell just to be treated poorly by who he thought were his best daughters. The first story to be recognized is King Lear. King Lear is king of Britain and he is getting older.…

In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell, describes a story about a hunter being hunted. The book and movie have their similarities, but they differ on things including how the characters are shown and the scenes portrayed. The characters in the movie and book stay mostly similar and other little details about them, but those little details can be changed and a surprise of added characters not originally there in either the movie or book. In the start of the movie when Rainsford was at the chateau, there was a man and a woman there while in the book, it was just Ivan, Zaroff, and Rainsford in the chateau.…

Stories and fairytales play a role in a person’s lives from the time the young age of reading stories every night before bed to adulthood when reading is a rare pleasure. If written well, a story captures a person’s mind and imagination. Every character, place, and adventure is pictured, making it feel as if the reader lived it with a character. After the success of a novel in bookstores, many novels transform from pages in a book to actors on the silver screen. Often, the portrayal of the movie differs greatly from the ideas of the characters and adventures readers pictured in their head.…

We first discussed our research question, To what extent do Arthur Conan Doyle and Dashiell Hammett use their characters to explore the immorality in their texts The ‘Hound of the Baskerville’ and The ‘Maltese Falcon’?, which she disagrees with due to its broadness of the topic. She recommends discussing justice between the two texts instead of immorality, which I found is difficult to focus, especially with the amount of research I’ve completed so far. We later found that the research question, To what extent are the moralities of the central characters in ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’ and ‘The Maltese Falcon’ comparable?, is more specific in a way that I will be researching on the main protagonist and antagonist of each of the texts. Furthermore,…

Once again, these comparisons, and contrasts, play an important role in the way that a story is looked at, and interpreted. Even though there are differences, most of the main points of the plot and the characters remain the same. For instance, Rainsford and Zaroff remain in both the written and the visual version of the story. Likewise, most of the events in the motion picture follow the events of the story. However, there are still differences including extra characters, and plot twists.…

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle writes a distinct but captivating tale of wit and cunning through his short story “The Adventure of the Final Problem.” The last escapade of the renowned detective is filled with suspense and drama as the contest between Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty ends with the demise of both the champion of the law and the most dangerous criminal of their generation. Within this adventure, Doyle not only manages to provide a unique perspective by telling the story through the eyes of Sherlock Holmes closest companion, but also manages to immerse the reader within his tale through the use of thick tones and blanketing imagery. “The Adventure of the Final Problem” is narrated by Dr. Watson, a peripheral character, and not by the main character, as one might expect. By using a peripheral character, Dr. Watson, as the narrator, the story is told in a more objective manner.…
