Problem/Solution Essay
Audience: Individuals concerned and willing to provide aid to victims of domestic violence
Knowledge is Power The sounds of screaming and crying for help awaken the child from her slumber. Startled, the child makes her way over to her parents room seeking comfort, only to discover that was the source of the unpleasant noises. The child reluctantly opens the door. Terror-stricken, she watches as her father’s fists bury deep into her mother’s body, leaving her marked and bruised. These campaigns can be enacted in joint with the Ad Council and can be funded by individuals, corporations, and foundations that support the promotion of domestic violence prevention programs. The implementation of these marketing campaigns would ultimately lead to decreased IPV rates and healthcare costs, healthier, stronger, safer, and more educated communities as well as increased life expectancies for these victims. According to Friedman, “I believe the best solution is to encourage and push these victims into getting help. Domestic violence is a major issue that is partly due to the fact that the victims refuse to take themselves out of their terrible situation. We can do this through emphasizing the importance of the resources available that support them. Often time’s victims are very aware that these programs exist, but are never pushed to contact them. If we can persuade a majority of these individuals to seek help, we may be able to save many lives and see a decline in domestic violence rates in the future.” Though marketing campaigns can take a lot of work, there are many individuals, including me, in our communities that are willing to volunteer and dedicate their time to contributing to a lifesaving
