The title of the poem “she being Brand” gives readers the idea that Cummings’ might be speaking about a female. He also shows his male dominance in the title by expressing how he is turning her into a woman, taking her purity and innocence, and making her his for the ride; for instance, how a horse is branded by its owner, claiming ownership. Cummings’ begins his poem by describing the unknown, unnamed woman as follows. she being Brand -new; and you know consequently a little stiff (1-4)

He describes in detail what he does to her through metaphor “tested my gas felt of her radiator made sure her springs were O.K.” (7-9) giving the reader the idea, that he is warming his car up, when in reality, he is seducing the woman and turning her on. He then describes how he “slipped the clutch” (10-11) hinting a sexual innuendo through the mechanics of the car, for how he was attempting to deflower this dame. The poet continues in detail, describing how he handles the car metaphorically painting a visual of his sexual
