?The?death?of a beautiful?woman?is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world.? ?Edgar?Allan?Poe Poe was a tortured soul, who had a vexed perception behind the truth of love and relationships. A lot of his writing reflects on this idea of lost love, described through a somber and melancholic tone. As expressed in his other poems, such as ?Alone?, Poe describes his deprivation of love and happiness when observing his surroundings. In the poems, ?The Raven?, ?Annabel Lee? and ?To Helen?, his obsession over his lost love is evident. Poe is obsessed with the way that his lover Annabel Lee has passed. He utilizes mortality as a facet of keen interest. The idea of grief and loss and tied together in this poem when discussing death. The depth of his grief is felt in the lines, ?For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams of Annabel Lee.? Through gothic elements he foreshadows his obsession with his lover. He believes that his souls are intertwined after death. ?And so, all the night tide, I lie down by the side of my darling- my darling- my life- and my bride.? The speaker even resorts to sleeping her grave. The imagery of a grave provides an overall morbid tone to poem. The speaker became over grieving the loss of his love. As expressed in the lines ?I was a child and she was a child? it was evident his love was simple. Through gothic elements. He lamented in obsession over her. ?But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee-?, there were no words to express his love. The speaker believes the heavens was jealous of their love and took it away out of spite. ?Poe?s indebtness to a fact of him nevertheless must be credited to all the romantic coloring of ?Annabel Lee? its bold figures its rich melody, it?s emotional strain and climatic structure, and indeed the transformation of the buried nugget to fine gold? (Law) He believes her death was a notion caused by the angels. Her beauty was comparable to that of angel; her sweet demeanor was immaculate to him. He believed of her to be his other half, his eternal key to happiness. When he was stripped of that and lost his love he became insane. Insanity due to lost love was also expressed in ?The Raven?. ?That the wind came out of the cold night? he was cold and alone. His love was so strong, ?Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; and the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes-? The speaker is comparing her to the stares, providing detailed depth of his grief. He believes that she is watching over him. Eventually, he becomes totally insane and sleeps in her grave- he lost his sanity due to his love. Others may temporarily sulk over lost love.
