Deep Vein Thrombosis
This is one of the deadly effects of sitting all day. You’re probably most familiar with Deep Vein Thrombosis, potentially fatal blood clots that can form in your legs, from warnings you encounter on airplanes while traveling long distances. However, any time that you are sitting without moving for extended periods of time, you put your body at risk for these. If you stay at your desk all day without getting up to walk around, you are putting yourself at risk for Deep Vein Thrombosis.
Obesity
Sitting all day plays a major contributing factor in the obesity that effects over 35% percent of American adults. If you’re sitting for the majority of your day, you’re not only burning fewer calories, it appears that you’re also slowing down your metabolism. Scientists aren’t exactly sure why this happens, but sitting causes your muscles to burn less fat and your circulation to become sluggish. When your circulation is slow, your other bodily functions begin to slow down as well, and fewer fat burning enzymes are moving through your body.
