A couple of issues include access discrimination, treatment discrimination, and unemployment and earnings disparities. First and foremost access discrimination is when people are denied access to jobs. This can happen to either male or female, as employers who have strong gender-role stereotypes are more prone to show access discrimination. Treatment discrimination is when someone is hired they get a job based on their race, sex, belief, age. This has happened a lot in the workplace as many employees are treated differently based on their race or sex. Lastly we have unemployment and earnings disparities, which have shown to be a huge issue in the United States. Plummer states “the black unemployment rate has consistently been twice as high as the white unemployment rate for 50 years”. This goes to show that we still have issues to overcome, as many African Americans are unemployed and household income between blacks and whites show a huge difference in earnings. Although wearing diversity hats can be an issue at times there are things we can do to address to these issues.
Some recommendations are get and wear your diversity hat. Also to observe what’s going on around you and around the world. Think about certain things before you act, don’t judge a person based on their race or sex. Base your opinion on whether the person has the right requirements for the
