Work, school, family activities, constraints on time, and stresses of daily life all contribute and prevent many people from practicing lifestyle practices that promote health. This discussion will focus on three healthy lifestyle practices that I feel I should be doing to promote my health. Information presented in Nola Pender’s Health Promotion model will help guide me to overcome barriers and promote behaviors to incorporate these lifestyle changes in my daily life. I will explain ways that will help enable me to be a healthier individual.

Reducing the stress associated with each is a goal I intend to achieve. Having been a nurse going on four years has given me the skills, knowledge, experience and time management skills to greatly reduce the stress levels at work. Forcing myself to take breaks and eat lunch has allowed me to regroup and reenergize and has helped greatly to reduce the stress at work. Going back to school and again now at Ohio University has increased stress with my home environment. Time commitment and planning have essentially reduced stress to a minimal in completing assignments in a timely fashion while allowing me to resume previous levels of physical activity.
In conclusion, I have outlined three healthy lifestyle changes and how I have included them into my daily life. The working environment of the nursing profession is not ideal for promoting health promotion activities. With resolve, commitment and time management skills, I am able to pursue a pathway towards healthy living.
