Macbeth Throughout Shakespeare The Tragedy of Macbeth, Macbeth is a selfish character who is driven towards his own desire. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth was a caring war veteran who helped lead his country strong and proud to victory. Macbeth was with his close friend and three witches came up to them saying Macbeth will soon be king. With that news, Macbeth goes home to tell his wife Lady Macbeth. The only way he can become king is if he kills the king now who is King Duncan. At first, Macbeth thought it was a bad idea but soon Lady Macbeth talked him into it. “I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise?” (Shakespeare, Macbeth, 2.2.14). Macbeth killed Duncan. Because of that act it made him change his mind set about not letting anything come in his way anymore to get what he wants. When Macbeth killed the king, he also had to kill the guards so they could not tell anyone what actually happened and who the killer is. Once he killed King Duncan, he thought he would be fine but that was not the case. Macbeth even kills one of his close friends Banquo and his son just to make sure that Banquo’s son does not become king after him. “ If’t be so./ for banquo’s issue have I filled my mind;/ for them gracious Duncan have I murderd.” (3.1.64-66). Macbeth just keeps killing everyone so he can keep his title and does not think anything of it. Lady Macbeth got sick and tired of all the killings and ends up commits suicide. When Macbeth finds out about that his wife is dead he does not care and wishes she dies at a different time because he is too busy to worry about it. “ she should have died hereafter./ There would have been a time for such a word.” (5.5.17-18).
