For many years, the media has dominated the communication world. With the advancement of technology, media is constantly around more than one may realize. What one also may fail to realize is how much of a role the media plays on shaping today’s society and race relations. Mastro (2017) stated that, research studies spanning decades reveal that representations of race and ethnicity across U.S. media contribute to racial stereotypes and discrimination characteristics against racial/ethnic minorities. This means that research shows that minorities are underrepresented in the media and have been the result of the media being “white-washed.” Given that, it is important to understand the significant role that media plays and what individual, cultural, and societal implications that are made by media depictions. Media is not just what you see on tv, but it is essentially a way of life. There are three main sources of media that effect race the most, media has served as a significant influence on race through television, social media, and news broadcasting.
