The movie Selena is about a Mexican- American girl who is raised at a young age to be a musician. The movie starts with her as a girl singing in her dad's restaurant and ends with her singing at some fairly large events. During her road to fame she endured a few hardships, like being evicted from the family home and also being told she can’t date or marry the lead guitarist. She is then tragically killed by the organizer of her fan club.
In the movie, it is often referenced that Selena is a woman in Latina music, because it is a male dominated profession. The fact that she is successful in a male dominated genre of music is impressive, especially since she became successful in this music at such a young age. She had to overcome hardships and

He pushed her to start making music. Later in her career, her father told her to not marry or date the guitarist and threatened to fire him and disband the group because of it. Her father was also her manager and made some very important decisions, like deciding whether to have her do certain gigs. If he hadn’t pushed her, she wouldn’t have gotten to where she was before she tragically died.
In the beginning, Selena’s father had a group of singers called The Dinos. This group was turned down from an American club because they were slightly darker than the Americans. Therefore, the Americans didn’t like them. Then, the group was turned down from a Mexican- American club because they couldn’t sing Spanish music for them to dance to. Later, Selena was told by her father that Americans didn't like her because she didn’t speak English perfectly and Mexicans didn't like her because she didn't speak Spanish perfectly.
Selena’s father helped her in her career by being demanding. He forced her to start singing and later he forced her to do certain gigs that were important in helping to develop her career. His intensity wasn’t always good though. He went a little too far when he demanded that she not even see the guitarist. In addition, he also went a little overboard when he declared if Selena married the guitarist, he would disband the
