Now that I’ve explained our civil justice system and defined tort, we can now further examine tort reform, the media’s role in our perception, and who or what is driving these agenda cases. I have brought about a perception that frivolous lawsuits, or people scheming to get rich quick, is taking advantage of our justice system, and consequently hurting us all. Or is it? Meaningless Million dollar frivolous lawsuits drive up healthcare costs because doctors are then forced to practice “defensive medicine” Go to the hospital and you’ll likely receive a CT or MRI or other VERY expensive tests when all the while, you just needed to hydrate and rest. Just like we pay for our health insurance, Doctors PAY for malpractice insurance that protects them in case they make a mistake. Advocates of reform would like to change the current system by enacting laws that would set a limit on the amount an injured party could sue for. This is called caps on damages, and would set a monetary figure that you could be awarded, no matter what your personal injury or suffering would be. How much would your left leg be worth to you if it had accidentally been removed and you could no longer
