Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play of two young lovers whose love and passion can not be openly expressed due to their feuding families. In result to this situation, the play ends with the unfortunate scene of their lives being taken for one another. However, these actions could have possibly been prevented if only these characters had not been married. Based on this evidence, Friar Laurence is most at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence is holy man who has an aspiration of bringing peace over Verona city and believes that by marrying Romeo and Juliet he can achieve this goal. “Come, come with me, and we will make short work; For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone till Holy Church incorporate two in one” (Shakespeare 2.6. 37-40). For instance, he killed Mercutio which infuriated Romeo to the point where he agreed to sword fight with Tybalt, ending with an unfortunate victory for Romeo that led to his banishment. Yet, it is more Friar Laurence's fault because if Juliet had not been married to Romeo, it would have made it a lot easier on his banishment. Even though Juliet still would have been upset up his banishment, she would be able to marry Count Paris because she would not be going against God now that she is not being married to two people. In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet is a meaningful tragedy of couple whose love and passion for one another is so incredibly strong they are willing to die for each other.
