“In 1908, Ford Motor Company’s first car, The Model T, used ethanol corn alcohol gasoline as fuel energy” (Fuel-Testers). So Ethanol …show more content…
When the Energy Company receives the corn they must turn it into a mash where it is fermented. To make mash companies add the corn into big barrels where it is soaked in water and yeast is added to the mixture. The yeast and water cause the corn to ferment which makes it combustible. Once it is fully fermented it is then cooked while still in the water. It is cooked to where the water evaporates and the steam is collected. The steam is funneled into pipes that are cooled so that it turns back into a liquid and collected. The liquid that is collected is ethanol. There is also another way to make ethanol. This way is less traditional but twice as productive. The first step is to make big tubs full of water that are really wide and long but not that deep. Then you allow sunlight to shine onto the stale water so that algae are allowed to grow on the surface of the water. After that you skim the top of the water with a net to collect all the algae. The algae that is collected is then put into a huge barrel and water is added to where the algae is barely under water. Then yeast is added to the mixture so that it kills the algae and causes it to ferment. The barrel is then heated to where the water begins to turn into steam. The steam is then collected and funneled into cooled pipes and turned back into a liquid. This ethanol is more potent and more ecofriendly because it saves corn from being used as a fuel source and can continue to be used as a source of
