It was the impact my kindergarten teacher had on me. As a 6 year old kindergartner, I was scared to death to leave the nest essentially "going out into the world." Everyone was taller, older, and more mature than I was walking into that school, but thanks to my kindergarten teacher, that didn't seem to be near as big of a factor. Walking into the classroom, I knew how to read, how to tie my shoes, and all of my ABC's, but that didn't make it any less frightening. It was really that whole year that had such a tremendous impact on me and was actually the foundation that made me want to become a teacher. Mrs. Dougherty was above and beyond in the classroom. Everything she did was with such intensity and such compassion that it made the whole learning enviroment something to look forward to. If I was having trouble with anything at all, or if something just didn't "click" she was so willing to answer questions and help and find new ways to help me grasp the concept.
