The most well known example of one of these programs fits in the palm of a hand – Apple’s Siri. A person can press a button to activate Siri and ask “her” virtually anything, to which she can output an answer, retrieve a map, call someone, or even recognize a song. Siri is an intelligent program that recognizes the human voice, and replies as a human would. “Rather than employing a fixed method, AI has as its constant goal the creation of intelligent agents for as many different tasks as possible. Just as in medicine, there is no universal method for all application areas of AI, rather a great number of possible solutions for the great number of various everyday problems, big and small” (Ertel). This is how programs such as Siri are so versatile – because artificial intelligence provides multiple solutions to every problem that arises in order to perform multiple tasks. The concept of an intelligent agent is crucial to AI development. An agent is “a system that processes information and produces an output from an input” (Ertel). An intelligent agent is differentiable than a normal hardware or software agent in that it can include past memory in its …show more content…
As Hauert stated, “My colleagues and I spend dinner parties explaining that we are not evil but instead have been working for years to develop systems that could help the elderly, improve health care, make jobs safer and more efficient, and allow us to explore space or beneath the oceans” (Russell, Hauert and Altman). The goal of artificial intelligence researchers is to create machines that can help people in their daily lives and to enable a safe environment in which humans and robots can coexist. “we do not want to give up the benefits that AI can bring, including less drudgery in the workplace, safer manufacturing and travel, increased security, and smarter decisions to preserve a habitable planet” (Buchanan). Once the ethical concerns are addressed, developers can use the technology to make the world a better place. One of the biggest problems is that American society is not fully educated on artificial intelligence. If more researchers put information on social media and if the subject was more talked about, people would know the goals of AI and would be less fearful of it – “experts need to become the messengers” (Russell, Hauert and Altman). Although there are still issues to overcome in enabling robots and humans to live together safely, new developments are occurring each day and artificial intelligence technology is on the rise. “we have a
