It had been a rough summer. I was just starting a new job, my dog had recently died, and I’d been struggling with injuries all summer. In fact, it was my injuries that formulated this discovery, so perhaps it wasn’t so bad afterall. This is the story of how I met my best friend, Madison. It was abnormally cool July day, almost deceptively cool. The sky was clear and the sun was out and shining, appearing as if it should be hot and humid, but that air was crisp and cool, perfect running weather. I arrived at Coach’s house for preseason cross country practice. The past week I had been struggling with a recurring injury, my SI joint had been sliding out of place, but I wasn’t about to let that stop me from running that day. Until Coach made the executive decision of having me bike for the next week, hoping that I would be healthy enough to compete at the first meet of the season that year. At the time, I thought it was the worst thing ever, but little did I know it was actually one of the best things that could’ve happened to me. …show more content…
I turned, looking for a bike that was close to my size, and realized that I wasn’t alone. Another girl was also injured and had to bike ride. I was relieved that I wouldn’t have to be alone the whole time, but a little hesitant because I’d never really talked to the girl. I’d seen her around the team, her name was Madison, but I was always too shy to go up and talk to her. Madison was short, even shorter than me and that’s saying something, and had long brown hair tied back into pigtail

I texted my dad to have him run home and get me some Ibuprofen, and I’m sure I must have taken enough that night that my kidneys will never forgive me. When Eric came to get me to warm up, I got up and did an awkward limp to the door. He asked if I should still be running, and I assured him that I would be fine. At this point, no amount of pain medication would work, and I stepped up to the start line fully expecting to finish in last place, have Quisno find out about my injury, and freak out at me. I ended up running almost 30 seconds slower than my best time, but I still managed to finish in 5th place to help out the team.…

Did that really just happen? “Come join us at soccer tryouts next Friday at the main field after school!” read the big, white flyer which I had picked up previously in the week after hearing about this eye-opening news during morning announcements.
