Courage is what Ellie has that she never thought she had. Ellie courageous action is shown the conflict between her and the soldiers such as checking out Showgrounds with Kevin and Corrie, rescuing Robyn and Lee out of the town, and blowing up the lawnmower and the bridge. These are courageous and heroic actions that Ellie demonstrated in the novel that she thought she never had. He was known as a guy who is crazy, wild, and a trouble maker. In the novel I started to see that Homer is becoming more of a leader. He had the idea of blowing up the bridge so they could slow down the armies from getting in and out of the town. There are a lot of problems that could go wrong with their plan, such as, what if the cattle doesn’t move or make them what do of what they the to do, or what if the tanker doesn’t have enough petrol to blow up the bridge, or what if the soldiers caught them and started firing, etc. But just like what Homer said in Chapter 9 “...The biggest risk is to take no risk. Or to take crazy risk…” (107). That’s what true courage is, when you take risks you need courage to help succeed to whatever the problem or event is.
