It seems everyone in The Great Gatsby is telling a lie and being shady about it. The out standing novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald shows the theme of lies and deceit, were everyone is hiding something and concealing the truth. The motif that connects with the theme is cheating through out the book we find the Tom and Daisy are both being unfaithful to each other with other people. The first lying cheater is Tom Buchanan when he took Nick Caraway to “meet his girl”
(Fitzgerald 24). Tom has been fooling round with Myrtle Wilson. Not only is Tom cheating on
Daisy so is Myrtle on her husband. Tom has a little getaway apartment in New York were he has a second life with Myrtle.
