The poets Mary Oliver, Lucille Clifton, and Pat Mora use personification to create a message about nature in the poems "The Earth is a Living Thing", "Sleeping in the Forrest", and "Gold". From the poem "Sleeping in the Forest" Ms. Oliver uses personification in the line "She took me back so tenderly." The personification in the line, gives the Earth the human quality of tenderly taking back the speaker, nature was affectionate. Another example of personification in one of the poems mentioned is "when the sun paints the desert" this line is from the poem "Gold," by Pat Mora. By the sun painting the desert gold, Pat Mora means that the sun is causing the sky to change color, she used personification to give it the human quality of painting.
