“Into Thin Air” also contains the three types of irony. An example of a situational irony is when one of the sherpas sustain an injury while climbing Mt. Everest. This is ironic because none of the audience expect a person who is a mountain guide to get hurt while climbing a mountain. Verbal irony occurs when Krakauer stated that the clouds are seemingly innocuous. This is an example of verbal irony because the clouds actually foreshadows a storm that wiped almost everybody. Dramatic irony is also present in the story. For example, Harris broke into Hall’s radio call and said the tanks were empty which led to a major problem. However, it is ironic because the tanks were actually full.
