Expansion was simply the expanding of the country. It wasn’t just America where this was happening, many countries around the world were also expanding. Expansion was almost viewed as a competition. Countries would compete for power, which in other terms meant, having great amounts of land.

The definition of expansion is the action of becoming larger or more extensive, and I believe that America did just that. There were many reasons the United States wanted to expand. Some of the main reasons were social, military and economic. The social reason was that we made many new friendships with other countries. We made a treaty with Japan and we even invited Latin Americans to an America Conference in 1889. Socially America did a good job of spreading the words and love of Jesus Christ. This is known of one of the greater accomplishments America did at the time. The United States military was able to set up a base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. By expanding out territory all the way down to Hawaii, this was a great benefit for the United States. Although, Pearl Harbor ended in a tragedy of many American soldiers this was just the beginning of the great expansion of the states. America didn’t just grow socially or grow because their military, America grew economically too. During this time, the United States opened up trade with the Japan and Hawaii.
