While he is reaching up to get the glass, he sees a strange green light coming from all corners of the door frame leading to the cellar. Since the narrator is a very non-confrontational person, decides to put it off as a hallucination and go back to bed. Later the following day, he brings up the green light to Helen and jokingly asked if he should be worried. Up to this point he truly believed it was a hallucination. However, he thought he witnessed a brief flash of terror on Helen’s face. She immediately wanted to prove everything was safe, so Helen took him down to the cellar. When they opened the door, it was clear there were only two things in the cellar: a statue of an astronaut holding an American flag. Without getting much of a chance to examine it further, Helen slammed the door in the narrators face, insinuating he saw enough to satisfy his curiosity. The remainder of his 8 week stay is uneventful, and leaves with his wife Mala. Several months later, he returns to check-up on Mrs. Croft. He brings his wife Mala to introduce to Mrs. Croft. However, this could make an interesting horror novel/film. It could apply to the juvenile age group, or perhaps adults (if the makeup and special effects were gorier. My adaptation of this work, at first glance, appears to have some plot holes. Why is the mother-daughter worshiping a statue of the moon landing? Where does the green portal go? Are there others? I left these details out on purpose. From my vantage point, it adds a certain level of suspense/mystery that will be left up to the viewers to make interpretations for themselves. However, if this adaptation was picked up by a studio/publishing company, we can surely add details to give the reader more information to work with when drawing their conclusions. To expand this genre even further, I am sure comedic aspects can be incorporated with the source material I have provided. Otherwise, I believe I preserve the essence behind the novel. The biggest point behind Mrs. Croft’s existence was to create a long-term bond between the narrator and Mala. I believe the ending of my modified work still fulfills this
