The First Day of the Rest of My Life As ancient greek philosopher Plato once said, “ The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life”. After my first few years of school, I learned that this quote is immensely true, since one’s education path dictates what happens in that person's life. Without a doubt, many events can significantly influence how a person lives his life. For example, a death of a loved one, getting a pet, or the first sporting event he attends. Without hesitation, Leo, Rigo, and I joined together in a group. I said, “I want to be a firefighter and a doctor”. I don’t remember what Leo said, but Rig wanted to be a professional basketball player. Looking back at this conversation, I find it hard not to think about how much I didn’t know back then, opposed to what I know now. It is absurd, because I actually thought that I could be a firefighter and a doctor at the same time. At this time, I thought that Rigo and Leo would be my best friends for my entire life. Ms. Denise gave us another speech, but one thing she said has stuck with me ever since. She said, “School is the most important thing in your life, because in the end, it will end up playing a big role in what you do later in your life”. At the time, I didn’t think much of this, since I couldn’t understand half of it. But, as I have gotten older, it has now become apparent to me that what she said is true, since how you do in high school dictates where you go to college.
