Anna Miller and I built a model of Fort Sumter. In this paper I will be going into depth about Fort Sumter and some of its facts. Fort Sumter was first built is the wake of the war of 1812 for defence purposes. Which sadly highlighted the United States lack of strong coastal defenses. Fort Sumter was named after the Revolutionary War general Thomas Sumter. One fact is that Fort Sumter was one of nearly 50 forts built as part of a coastal defense program that was made in 1817. The placement of Fort Sumter allowed it to have control of Charleston Harbor.
