“Parents are the first and most influential socialization agents" (Benokraitis). Family we can start with them, because of the four primary agents they often have the greatest impact on who we become. A new born baby is born with a clean slate. It is then the parent’s job to guide them on the road towards self discovery. This is way we consider them the most influential people in our lives. We learn from our parents behavior, whether it be good or bad. They show us the dos and don’ts of behavior and the repercussions of our actions. An example of this can be if you are caught hitting say another child on the play ground. Your parent’s actions tell us something and even if we don’t notice it now they create a blue print of how we handle certain situations in the future. These blue prints find themselves in all socialized interactions that ultimately lead to reinforcement. The reason parent’s influences carry such esteem in our lives because they make all the major choices for us growing up. It’s our parents who choose where we live in, where we go to school and who we surround ourselves with.
