Fracking is injecting liquid, filled with chemicals and water, into the earth to reach oil or gas to then extract it. Fracking is controversial due to the fact that the earth, humans, and water supply is harmed in the process. Research has shown that fracking is not necessarily a safe process, but there are safer ways to complete the process.
Toxicological Science can lessen the casualties of or effects to human health and the environment, but only by furthering the science and technology of it. “Advances in the technology of hydraulic fracturing of shale to produce natural gas and oil offers the United States welcome opportunities to enhance domestic energy options and promote energy independence” (Goldstein 1). The research gathered from Toxicological science shows and characterizes the chances of being at risk when being exposed to these chemicals. This type of science helps identify information on the risks of fracking. This Science help with keep everyone safe and have a much cleaner and also safer environment. With this being said being said Toxicological Science needs to be furthered in order to improve fracking conditions. Fracking can be simply safer and greener in the near future. If shale gas realizes it’s worth, then fracking can be made way safer. There …show more content…
Due to shale gas production the state of Texas has actually decreased water consumption and saved water. Since Texas has gotten rid of coal-fired power plant, which consume lots of water, and switched to the natural gas it saves more water. This article states that by fracking, natural gas production is boosting, and making the electric power system more drought resistant. “Researchers estimate that water saved by shifting a power plant from coal to Natural Gas is 25 to 50 times as great as the amount of water used to extract the natural gas in the first place.”
