As Plutarch a greek historian once said “An imbalance between the rich and the poor is the oldest and most fatal ailment of all republics” which is exactly what the state of New York had become. There were such a huge influx of european immigrants who had come to New York city for better opportunities that it created an imbalance of the wealthy and the poor.Its obvious how the wealthy felt towards the influx which is why they treated the immigrants so poorly . The Genesis Of Tenements depicts life in these tenements through such words that allows one to sympathize for the immigrants . Riis’s wanted to shock the reader so he utilizes vivid descriptions and photographs depicting the dangers and conditions of these tenements in which immigrants had to live in. The video stated that there was no privacy and that often one had to walk through a bedroom to get access another bedroom.
