In terms of size, it is relatively small compare to the major city like Seattle and Tacoma. General perception of Edmonds is as safe, beautiful, with excellent family activities, and one of the best suburbs to live in around Seattle. As mentioned about size of the geographic location (Census tract) in the City and entire City of Edmonds, there are about 5,352 and 39,709 people living respectively, while the total population of the entire metro area (Seattle, Tacoma and Bellevue) in Washington State is 3,439,809 based on the 2010 Census track data (See attached table). The most visible characteristics of the population category in the Census tract is median age. As you can see from the attached table that the people in this Census tract are predominately White (82%). However, as you go out to the bigger scale, the diversity increases. Particularly, there are some significant increase in the diversity between the City (83.4% White) and the metro area (71.9% White). The percent of all Asian, Blacks and Hispanics population increases as you look at the bigger scale while Asian population stay as the second most throughout the all scales. Again, there is no significant difference between the Census tract and the City in terms of percent of diversity. According to the Census State Race Breakdown, White makes up to 77.3% of the state population, and Hispanic or Latino makes up to 11.2% of the State population. With these numbers in mind, characteristics of the population in race for both the Census tract and the City are significantly different than the metro area since White population ratio is well over for both the Census tract and the City while White population ratio for the metro area is well under the State's White population
