In Gianna Molla’s case she believed that no matter what her child’s life came before her own. Gianna had three children with her husband Peter and when they found they had another child on the way they “rejoiced” (Widemark). Two months into the pregnancy Gianna found that she had developed a cancerous tumor in her womb that if removed could cause her child to die. Gianna also had the option of removing the tumor without killing the child but she would risk her own life, “Gianna did not hesitate but being the fine mother she was, she begged the doctor to save her baby” (Widemark). Although Gianna chose to save her child’s life instead of her own abortion could still remain as an option for mothers who want to protect their own lives. Viewing this also from the husband’s stand point it would prove very difficult to lose the love of his life due to childbirth complications. In Matthew 19:6 the ESV version reads “So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” (Matthew). If the mother terminated her pregnancy she may not be able to have more children but her and her husband could always consider adoption. Realizing that many people may want their own children, this life threating instance may not happen in any other of the woman’s future pregnancies, so why would someone lose all chances of that by terminating the mothers’ life instead of the unborn child’s.
