The book The Pearl a poor fisherman names Kino finds a huge pearl. Many people want the pearl that kino has. A first, Kino wants the pearl to cure his baby Coyotito from a scorpion sting but ends up wanting it more for materialistic things. Greed left unchecked can lead to immoral behavior because of the actions of the attackers, the doctor, and the trackers. The attackers demonstrate that greed left unchecked can lead to immoral behavior because of their actions. Kino is attacked first by someone sneaking into his house at night and trying to steal his pearl. Men would not normally attack Kino; they attack him at night trying to steal his pearl. Kino is attacked a second time while juana is trying to throw the pearl away. He kills his attacker trying to protect himself and the pearl. Kino would not normally kill a man, but he kills another man trying to protect himself. Juana knows that others want their pearl as she says, “they will come for us” (32). First, the trackers follow Kino vigorously because they badly want the pearl. The trackers are working very hard to get the pearl because they are very greedy. The trackers would kill a baby just o get the pearl. Killing a human is bad but killing a newborn baby is even worse. The trackers are so greedy they will do almost anything to get the pearl. “do you think they would let the little one live?” (40) says Juana.
