Group Check-In

First, the group leader will do a “group check-in”, since I believe the in class check-ins are less personal. Therefore by performing our own group check- ins I believe it will allow each member to go more in depth with how they are feeling, aiding if they want to state any personal issues and or problems that arose within the past week that they would be comfortable sharing. To narrative the check-ins I will have two pictures, one picture of a full beer mug, which represents the good and a second picture with an empty beer mug, which obviously represents the bad. (I will also explain to the group that I decided to choose these pictures due to our group’s main problem and topic. I will also ask the group members to list one negative aspects or weakness they may struggle with and how they can overachieve it within the next couple of days or weeks. After completing this activity I will ask the group members to recognize the importance of understanding and knowing ones own strengths and weakness, stating it’s an important view to have, just as Jamie stated in her Owning it, 2012 blog, emphasizing evolving as an individual, allowing yourself to grow and accepting change in ones own career, social life, and education. Once this exercise is over, and if there is still time I would like to give the group members a campus tour. What happens when life doesn’t go exactly as planned? Oddly enough, this happens very often in the lives of many young Americans, and the strange thing is no one knows the answer to that question. Everyday, young people pursue their aspirations of college and dream jobs while leaving no room for mistake or error. Yet, error happens, sometimes accidentally, sometimes on purpose; however, it is the way in which adolescents respond to that error which influences their life. In texts like “College Should Be an Adventure”, and the Human Nature Peanuts cartoon by Charles M. Schulz, young people are taught that life, in fact, will not go exactly as planned, but that they should learn from their mistakes and move on.…

One of the workshops held by Ramp that I found most inspiring this quarter was the Professional Spotlight. After listening to the guest speaker I felt that I had to expand my horizon and think of ways that my degree can impact others not only myself and my future. I learned that no matter what your background is or the difficulties you are having, you can always impact the lives of those around you with the simplest thing someone does. As a first generation I got the will to push even harder to earn my degree with the best efforts and to not let myself go down because I have the opportunity that not everyone has. Even though the obstacles are hard and difficult that I can achieve and get passed them.…

That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…

The past year has been quite the journey. I am always explaining to my students that learning never ends- That it is our individual responsibility to embrace the future and to prepare ourselves to conquer it in the best possible way. In my classroom, we focus on positive mindsets and our mantra is, “A negative thinker sees a difficulty in every opportunity, and a positive thinker sees an opportunity in every difficulty” (Zig Zigler). With this in mind, I have taken this opportunity to show my students and my own children the power of continuing education and hard work. The programming at CSU-Global has provided me with an excellent platform for future leadership.…
