Many people believe that by legalizing more types of guns, murder rates will rise; however, this is not the case. It is hard work to obtain a permit. According to Ray Long from the Chicago Tribune, “State Police would be required to give concealed carry license to a person if he or she meets a series of qualifications…To get a permit, a person would have to complete training...”(Long). These many qualifications help protect our nation by completing checks to make sure permits are not given to the wrong people, so that people who are living in a hazardous neighborhood have the chance to protect themselves. David Heninzmann wrote in his report about how gun law work:” police and prosecutors can object to a permit on several grounds if they believe a person is a danger to themselves or others. In addition to mental health issues.” (Heninzmann). David Heninzmann also confesses, “Several police officers who work in high-crime neighborhoods said they support the law, in part because law-abiding citizens who live in dangerous neighborhoods may have a better chance to defend themselves”(Heninzmann). Innocent citizens should be able to be protected by their handgun in their unsafe neighborhoods. Additionally, guns are mostly used in situations where people are threatened. People think they are completely protected by the government at all times. If this was correct, then there would be no crime in the country. But everyday a tragedy happens, either somebody is killed, robbed, or raped. If police officers were everywhere to stop this then we wouldn’t have any crime at all. Although police officers are trained for years and had been in tremendous amount of dangerous situations, many officers believe that "Best way to survive a gunfight is don't be there when the gunfight happens" (Heninzmann). Unfortunately, there aren’t enough police officers in the world to stop crime. Also, some officers are also corrupt officials who take part in crimes by working with gangs in their area or just not stopping crime because they are paid to look the other way by criminals. If guns were allowed, an individual would have the satisfaction to not need any help from anybody and be able to help themselves when put in dangerous
