Halloween Should Be Allowed

Decent Essays
It's always fun to hear what people are afraid of (especially when it's something ridiculous), and since this week is Halloween, I thought this would be appropriate.

Write about something that you were (or are) afraid of, a scary moment of your life, or anything else related to fears, especially irrational ones. You can be as serious or as silly as you want with this, but be honest.

Make sure you respond substantially (not just "me too"--add to the conversation) to two classmates. Don't make fun of people too much! I'm not responsible for how any of this information is used in the future! :)

As I passed through downtown Atlanta, I couldn't help admire the home of the Braves, not just because it was an architectural wonder but because it brought back to mind that very first lesson when Professor Van Huevelen sparked my curiosity when he said we find that there are some things in this world that are repeatable. Repeatable. Repeatable. So a baseball pitcher, if he throws a ball with the same speed and in the same direction, spinning the ball the same, it'll end up going about the same place.…

When people think of Halloween, some view as a holiday of fun. Its purpose in the United States is viewed as a holiday for children and adults alike, since children get free candy from trick or treating, while adults go out partying while dressed in costumes. However, Halloween’s actual purpose was more of a holiday or festival in the Celtic religion called Samhain, the holiday was to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. As time passed, Halloween went from festivals for the harvest season to a holiday for kids and adults here in the States.…

The scariest thing about Halloween is the shocking number of calories we can consume in one go without a second thought. It’s like an autumnal version of Easter, just replace the fluffy bunnies and clucking chicks with horrifying clowns and spooky skeletons. Express Vending have crunched the numbers and discovered just how many houses both adults and children would have to trick or treat in order to burn off the sweets they might receive in exchange. While a measly packet of Parma Violets will only set you back 3-4 houses, a full sized Mars Bar could add up to over 40! We’ve, rather sneakily, calculated this information by looking into not only the number of calories adults and children can burn while walking, but also how many houses…

Such as coulrophobia and pediophobia- the fear of clowns and fear of dolls. Watching horror clown or horror doll films at young ages can be a traumatic experience that causes future problems. Movies such as “It” and “Chuckie”, could affect children’s way of looking at clowns and dolls the same. The most absurd fear about is bananaphobia- the fear of bananas. Children are waiting for this day, they lie in wait month by month and plot what costumes they will wear on this day; they figure out who amongst their friends and family will gather the most candy; this day is called Halloween. Halloween is the one day in the whole year where people and children alike dress up in costumes and go door to door in order to accumulate candy, however, one would not think that Halloween was not always a child-friendly holiday but had a shadowy and foggy past. Halloween then and Halloween now are completely two different people. Halloween in the past was first a day that marked a new season, but soon became a time where terror resides in the hearts of the Celts. Halloween today, has taken a dark turn where sadists and commercialization have sucked the fun and the historical truth out of Halloween.…
