This condition is thought to be caused by the fluid levels and the combination of fluids in the canals of the inner ear. (*** 1) One of the main parts of the inner ear is the fluid-filled tubes called labyrinths. The labyrinths and the cochlear nerve in the skull help with the upright position of the body and help the person maintain balance. (*** 2) Although a lot is known about this disease the exact cause has yet to be discovered. (*** 1) There are some rare cases in which Meniere’s disease could have been caused by a head injury. Other risk factors for Meniere’s disease include but are not limited to; alcohol use, allergies, family history, smoking and stress. …show more content…
(*** 7) The word itself stands for “abnormal hardening of the ear.” (used 5 info, but mine). Otosclerosis is a condition in the inner ear dealing with the bones and the internal workings of the ear. (*** 6) Otosclerosis occurs when the stapes bone becomes sponge-like. The fixation prevents the ends of the bone from vibrating in response to sound waves, resulting in a conductive hearing loss. (*** 7)
There are multiple symptoms or effects of otosclerosis including; tinnitus, vertigo and dizziness. However the most common effect is hearing loss. The hearing loss caused by this disorder will be slow and unnoticed at first, but will become more prominent and worsen over time. (***7). As of right now there is no drug treatment that has proven effective for this disease. (*** 5) Fortunately there are alternate forms of treatment such as; cochlear implantation, hearing aids and a mild surgical treatment.
Hearing loss is and will always be a major problem for many people; whether it is caused by aging and living your everyday life or caused by a medical reason such as; ear infections, Otosclerosis and Meniere’s disease. For those who have the option; turn your music down and put in hearing protection, because your hearing is something you don’t want to live
